Easy STEM Activities For Kids

Now that we are a homeschooling family, I'm always searching for activities to make learning and discovery fun and captivating. I concentrate on finding supplemental materials that allow my kids to set down the books and use their hands for one-on-one interaction with Science and Technology. Whenever I'm stumped on where to discover new material, I always turn to Discover With Dr. Cool, who provided me the products pictured above at no cost to facilitate this review! This educational company supplies an endless amount of options in STEM activities that will make any kid fall in love with Science!

National Geographic Play Sand

  • 2 POUND SAND SET WITH TRAY– This sand is kinetic, so it sticks only to itself and not to you! This perpetually "wet" sand is perfect to mold, shape, and squeeze
  • 6 EXCITING MOLDS – Kids can build castles, pyramids, and more with the 6 different molds included
  • NON-TOXIC & MESS-FREE –This hypoallergenic sand is non-toxic and super easy to clean up!
  • USE OVER AND OVER – A special mixture of sand that doesn't dry out, allowing you to use it again and again
  • RESPECTED QUALITY – Providing children with the best educational toys, this kit is backed by National Geographic's 100% satisfaction guarantee

Levi loves kinetic sand and he and I were both impressed with how much sand this set provided. Super simple to mold and shape, Levi and his siblings created, molded, built cities, tunnels, and caves for almost an hour! I did find that the granules to this particular sand were a bit messier than other sand we've used in the past but even after a couple weeks of use this sand stays true to it's promise and hasn't come close to drying out.

National Geographic Cell Phone Microscope

  • 90x MAGNIFICATION - get kids excited about biology and science by capturing beautiful and minutely detailed photos of the natural world
  • SECURE UNIVERSAL CLAMP - this miscroscope attaches to any smart phone easily and securely. Requires no additional apps or software to use.
  • IMAGES IN FOCUS - capture the perfect close-up picture with the included phone stabilizer and easy-to-use focus knob and lock.
  • TWO VIEWING MODES - switch back and forth between bright LED illumination more every-day objects and Ultraviolet light for viewing currency, stamps, and more.
  • BATTERIES INCLUDED - start exploring right out of the box! 2 LR44 batteries included.

My Science-loving daughter, Eva snatched this little microscope up as soon as it arrived! Not only does it work on your smart phone, but Eva uses it with ease on her iPod. She had a blast moving from room to room taking pictures of house plants, dust bunnies, a swatted fly here and there (and I realized that I needed to dust my house a little better!) and even took a picture of my wedding ring.

Actual picture of a diamond in my wedding ring that Eva took with her Cell Phone Microscope.

This nifty educational tool fits into her pocket, purse, or backpack ensuring that no matter where we go, Eva will never miss an opportunity to discover what the rest of us miss!

Create A Rocket Playhouse

  • 3-DIMENSIONAL ARTS AND CRAFTS PROJECT - Perfect for young space enthusiasts. The black and white rocket design encourages creative play and nurtures the imagination. Perfect for a rainy day activity!
  • EASY ASSEMBLY AND STORAGE - Instructions are easy to follow for children and adults. No glue or tape is required, making cleanup quick and easy too!
  • GREAT PARTY ACTIVITY - Perfect for birthday parties, sleepovers, and family gatherings. Encourages social learning and cooperative play among children 4 and up.
  • DURABLE AND SAFE - Made from high-strength cardboard with no sharp edges, allowing kids to safely enjoy again and again.
  • INSPIRATION INCLUDED - Comes with 10 washable markers and 42 glow-in-the-dark stickers for hours of decorating fun!

Since we started homeschooling this month, Levi takes the opportunity, while his siblings are schooling, to entertain himself with different craft projects. This has been super for him because there's a large amount of area to color and decorate, plus it doubles as a great imagination station for creative play! I had a little bit of trouble initially putting it together, but once I mastered where the tabs belonged, our rocket was built in a snap! Levi's rocket has moved from our living room to his bedroom, and though it's not meant to be permanent, he's still not ready to get rid of it. Our rocket has maintained it's shape and sturdiness is still blast-off-ready for all of Levi's adventures to the moon and back!

STEM activities are one of the best ways to get kids engaged in the sciences and technology! When kids can interact with their own hands and creativity, it makes learning so much more memorable and exciting!

  10. These are great activity kits to help kids use their imaginations. My favorite is Create A Rocket because my youngest granddaughter wants to be an astronaut when she grows up (she's dressing as one for Halloween). She would have fun assembling and designing the rocket ship.
