I'm definitely a sucker for military movies. I'm equally as emotional when it comes to dog movies. Combine both of these themes together and you have a heart-tugging, family friendly movie of heroic proportions! Warner Bros Home Entertainment is thrilled to touch audiences with this unforgettable story about man's best friend, who just also happens to be a hero and a Marine. I received the movie title pictured above, at no cost to facilitate this review, and I can tell you this is one film you and your family won't want to miss!
A precision-trained military dog, Max serves on the front lines in Afghanistan alongside his handler, U.S. Marine Kyle Wincott. But when things go terribly wrong on maneuvers, Kyle is mortally wounded and Max, traumatized by the loss of his best friend, is unable to remain in service. Sent stateside, the only human he seems willing to connect with is Kyle's teenage brother, Justin, so Max is saved when he is adopted by Kyle's family. But Justin has issues of his own, including living up to his father's expectations, and he isn't interested in taking responsibility for his brother's troubled dog. However, Max may be Justin's only chance to discover what really happened to his brother that day on the front, and with the help of Carmen, a tough-talking young teen who has a way with dogs, Justin begins to appreciate his canine companion. Justin's growing trust in Max helps the four-legged veteran revert back to his heroic self, and as the pair race to unravel the mystery, they find more excitement - and danger- than they bargained for. But they each might also find an unlikely new best friend...in each other. - Warner Bros. Home Entertainment
Our Southern Style's favorite six-year-old couldn't wait to watch this movie for one of our family movie nights. He, along with our whole family, also happen to love our sweet dog, Buster, who is just as much a part of our family as the rest of us. He's getting up there in years (12) and we cherish him so very much. I think it's safe to say that anyone who welcomes a dog into their home understands the special bond these animals have with their families, and having a sweet pup of our own made the movie, Max, hit a little closer to home.
Our entire family, Buster included, loved this film! Plenty of moments of laughter, suspense, and a few tears here and there to keep everyone hooked on the story, from the youngest to the oldest. With it's PG-rating, I didn't have to worry about content (I love that!) The Co-writer/director of this film, Boaz Yakin ("Remember the Titans", "Fresh") brings to life a story about a small part of the military that many of us never think about, military dogs and their handlers. I can't giveaway the most moving part of the story, but I can assure you that after watching this movie, you will grow to have a deeper appreciation for these dogs and their love and unwavering loyalty to their military handlers. Our family often prays for and writes letters to military personnel overseas and after watching "Max", there's no doubt our men and women are just a little bit safer and provided just a little more comfort by the presence of military dogs all over the world keeping watch over their masters. With Veterans Day just around the corner, "Max" is the perfect movie to watch with your family, as we take that day to celebrate and honor all of our veterans, both human and canine for their heroic service to our country.
