Muppet Babies we make are dreams come true. Muppet Babies we'll do the same for you. How many of you are still singing along to the Muppet Babies theme song? If you grew up in the 80's there's no doubt you were a Muppet Babies fan and welcomed these lovable Jim Henson characters into your home every Saturday morning. It's hard to believe that kids and families have been smiling and laughing, thanks to the creative genius of Jim Henson for 60 years! As an artist he paved the way for so many wonderful, innovative changes in children and family viewing and thanks to Three.Sixty Marketing & Communications (who sent me the books and dvd's featured in this post at no cost to facilitate this review) I'm privileged to honor Jim Henson and his work in this post! To help our readers celebrate with us, Thrifty Nifty Mommy & Our Southern Style are hosting a fantastic Jim Henson giveaway filled with over $50 worth of children's books and DVD's inspired by Jim Henson characters!

Jim Henson was a genius puppeteer, artist, inventor, screenwriter, actor, film director, and producer, and brought the world such indelible characters as Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal, Gonzo, Rowlf the Dog, Bunsen and Beaker and others collectively known as The Muppets. He also created the Sesame Street Muppers like Ernier & Bert, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Grover. In addition to creating The Muppet Show and the first three Muppet feature fils, Jim also conceived the awe-inspiring fantasy film The Dark Crystal; the stunning visual-effects laden live-action feature Labyrinth; the favorite Fraggle Rock, and numerous other beloved titles like Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas and The Storyteller.

You probably know these classic titles from your own childhood, but you may not realize that The Jim Henson Company continues to create favorite childhood friends with some of the most popular and acclaimed children’s programming titles available!  Today, Jim Henson’s children continue to own and run the uniquely independent and creative company he founded, and under the leadership of Lisa Henson (CEO) and Brian Henson (Chairman), the company continues to create fresh, new characters and fantastical worlds that speak to today’s audiences, abiding by the essence of the Henson brand – innovation! We think you’ll know them all! - Three.Sixty Marketing & Communication

I personally feel such a sense of nostalgia and connection when I think about the role that Jim Henson's characters played in my own life. I still have vivid memories of Bert and Ernie, the wonderful fun they had and songs that they and all of their friends sang on Sesame Street. "I Don't Want To Live On The Moon" is still probably the most requested song by my own kids at bedtime; a song I used to love growing up and one I began to sing to my own children when I tucked them in bed at night. I can still hear the fun and jazzy music of Fraggle Rock in my own head and even though the show has long been off the air (at least off our TV currently catches) we have Fraggles that live on in DVD's that my kids still love popping in and joining with them on their adventures. One of the things I love most about Jim Henson is that though his characters span the interest and lifestyles of four different generations, they are a simple treasure that continue to bring us all back together.

Here's some of the latest Jim Henson fun both you and your kids can enjoy this Halloween season!

Jim Henson final 3

(SRP: $7.99)

DVD: Doozers: Spookypalooza from NCircle  It's Spookypalooza! (SRP $6.99)

DVD: Pajanimals: Spooky Costumes from NCircle: Cowbella is nervous about trick or treating because she doesn’t like all the scary vampires and zombies she saw at a party.   A trip to Storybook Land reveals that those vampires and werewolves are just costumes that the big kids wear to have fun, just like her pretty princess costume!  (SRP $6.99)

DVD: Sid the Science Kid: Sid’s Spooky Halloween from NCircle: Halloween can be spooky and scientific as Sid and his friends discover how bats catch mosquitoes, why spiders are expert engineer web builders, and how skeletons make up the foundation of our bodies!  Later the kids dress up to celebrate Halloween at school with Teacher Suzie! (SRP $6.99)

My littlest son, Levi couldn't wait to watch these DVD's! His personal favorite was the Dinosaur Train Buddy's Halloween Adventure - which also helps kids learn that sometimes even though something may look scary, there's really nothing to be afraid of. Me on the other hand, I was excited when he finally picked the Pajaminals and I found myself reliving all of the things I loved about Jim Henson when I was growing up. The easy-to-sing-along-with songs on Pajanimals are so fun and the sweet faces of these adorable puppets are the perfect edition to any preschooler's day! This DVD is perfect for younger kids who find themselves a little frightened at Halloween time in reminding them that all of the spooky people they might see, are just the same friends and family in a costume. In all of these Jim Henson features, children aren't just having fun, they are learning about Science, Reading, or simple life lessons in a way that makes it memorable. As a Mom, I definitely appreciate that!

Jim Henson's characters aren't just found on the TV and Movie screens, now they can be found in books that your kids will look forward to reading whether are reading on their own, or still need a little bit of help!

Enchanted Sisters - Sisters Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer are nature's royalty. In Mother Nature's realm, they're responsible for each magical turn of the seasons. When they're not keeping all of nature in balance, the girls play, imagine, and explore their way around their enchanted world. And though they love harmony, the sisters often cross paths with the Weeds -- wild boys who bring trouble with them wherever they go. - Three.Sixty Marketing & Communication.

As soon our review box arrived, my daughter Eva, who just started the 2nd grade, immediately snatched up the bright and colorful Spring's Sparkle Makeover and exclaimed, "This one I HAVE to read!" I love that the covers are just as inviting and exciting as the stories and am thrilled to share that not only are these books perfect for my daughter's reading level, the Jim Henson Company is currently working on a TV series just for the characters in these books. Getting a child excited about reading is always wonderful, and it's even easier when they look forward to reading a book about characters they enjoy watching on TV.

Doozers - in the Doozer's Ready to Read books I really appreciated the big print, making it easier for my son Elijah, who is in his first year of Kindergarten, to sound out the words. He still needs quite a bit of help, but fewer words on each page helps him feel accomplished as we turn each page and read together. Learning to read can be frustrating for a lot of children but the Doozers help add some fun and always share the message of "You can do it!"

In Doozers Catch A Ride, everyone in the Pod Squad has a very special vehicle to help them get around Doozer Creek - everyone except Molly Bolt, so her friends decide to get together and build the perfect ride for her! When Molly Bolt takes each of their vehicles for a spin, she realizes she wants a vehicle as unique as she is! (SRP: $3.99)

And in Doozers Stick With It, the Pod Squad wants to make their neighborhood a better place, so they decide to build a new playground for everyone to enjoy! Spike invited a Super Sticking Spray to join pieces together, but when the spray turns from super sticky to super slippery, Professor Gimbal slips and falls - and gets stuck in the playground equipment! (SRP $3.99) - Three.Sixty Marketing & Communication

From memorable songs and characters to creative ideas and innovation that continues to this day, Jim Henson has touched more hearts both during his own life, and even after, than most artists ever dream of. His work transcends not just the moments we shared on the screen but into so many other aspects of our lives and even now our own children's lives. There's no doubt that my kids will have special memories of some of their favorite Jim Henson characters, shows, and movies that they will one day be excited to share with their own children. Not many people strive in life to create happy and joyous moments for others, but Jim Henson has been doing that now for 60 years and I'm so happy to celebrate that today with all of my readers!

Take a moment to share your favorite Jim Henson show and be sure to visit the Jim Henson Company website - you never know what new friends and familiar friends you might meet!
