Girls Have Some DIY Fun With Moxie Girlz Knitting Fun

Moxie edit 2

If you have ever walked down the doll isle at your local store, you will find any doll that does just about anything. They have dolls that wear make-up, dolls that can become mermaids, dolls that are veterinarians, the list goes on and on. I was so excited when MGA Entertainment sent me a Moxie Girlz Knitting Fun doll to review because I knew it would be something both my girls would have fun with, but also something that would keep their attention and keep them moving on a project for longer than just a few minutes. My girls are always ready for some extra creative fun, and over the weekend we decided to bust our Moxie Girlz Knitting Fun girl, Avery, out of her box and see just what she was made of.

The Moxie Girlz love to get creative and make amazing gifts to share with friends with finger knitting! Create real cute and colorful scarves, bracelets, rings and hair accessories for your Moxie Girlz doll and you too! It's super easy, super creative, and super fun! Features: Use your hands to "finger knit" (it's so easy) and the four-prong ring tool to knit for your doll. Check out the Moxie Girlz branded YouTube video segment and step-by-step "how to" instruction manual included to show how fun and easy finger knitting is! Each doll pack comes with 10+ pieces, complete with a variety of gorgeous and colorful yarns, ribbons and beads that will make it simple and fun for you to make accessories for your Moxie Girlz doll and for you, too! Avery also comes with a bow barrette just for you to embellish using your finger knitting creations! Bonus! Doll can pose to sit and stand on her own, no doll stand required! - Product Description.

Before I get down to the knitting gritty (or should I say knitting gritty), I want to say that I love what the Moxie Girl stands for. While this doll is still small and petite, like most dolls you find in the pink isle in the toy section, Moxie Girlz want all girls to have a positive attitude and confidence. They hope that girls will have the courage to go for anything they put their minds to and know they have what it takes to get the job done. I love that this doll isn't just another pretty face in an endless sea of doll figures, but that with her, comes the opportunity to learn something new.

Each Moxie Girlz Knitting Fun doll comes with everything pictured above. You can learn how to knit using your fingers, or knit with the tool provided. With three different colors of yearn and thread to choose from, girls can create a fun accessory to match their doll, or even something to match an outfit of their own. Add any or all of the six barrette clips provided above for some extra pazazz.

Each doll comes with an easy to follow, step-by-step guide on how to create knitting accessories with both your fingers and the knitting tool. My daughter, Eva, just turned 7 and though she can read, there were a lot of words that were a little outside of her reading range - luckily the Moxie Girlz have their own YouTube channel and they posted a video just for girls learning how to use their Knitting Fun doll. This allows girls to learn and work at their own pace, and work independently on their own as well. We pulled up the YouTube post and Eva watched it a few times with her knitting tool in hand. Check it out HERE.

I will say, that though the age on the box says for kids age 5-12, the knitting activity, even with the help of YouTube proved a little difficult for Eva (age 7). I'll be the first to say she is not one of those kids who has a lot of patience to try and try and try again. She tends to learn most things pretty quickly, so if she discovers something that doesn't come easy for her, she tends to get frustrated pretty quickly. Like most younger kids, they want to see the fruits of their labor pay off instantly, and when it comes to any knitting, even Moxie Girl Knitting, it takes some time, and patience until your work pays off. Lucky for Eva, she has an older sister, Mariyah (age 11) who last year went through the rubber band, loom, bracelet making craze and was willing and able to step in and give her some tips. It took a few tries, and some extra help, but before long, Eva had finally created a cool, fun scarf  for her Moxie Girl!
